Architecture of Rendezvous Tourism Centre

Just before the turn of the 19th century, some 140 years ago, many of the older towns of
the Lowveld were founded following the gold rush to towns such as Pilgrims Rest and
Barberton. In the early days malaria was especially rife and few "delwers"
thought of settling in the area permanently. It was therefore common thinking to
build easy to erect corrugated iron houses, with wide verandahs around for shading.
Some thought it a good idea to bring some decoration into the picture and soon a new
architectural style, albeit borrowed from the gold fields around Johannesburg, established
itself in the area.

Rendezvous Tourism Centre's architectural style is reminiscent of those early days, quite charming with an air of romance into the bargain. We have added the lush lawn with pond and kid's playground, as well as a few airy wooden decks around the restaurant area - but then there were no shopping centers around at the time, isn't it? We're sure the old delwers would have have approved, like you certainly would...
